WINTERVILLE�Pitt Community College scored as the buzzer sounded but still came up short, 87-86, in its bid to knock off Region X Conference-leading Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday. Entering the game on a six-game winning streak, the Bulldogs controlled the game early on and took a 45-40 lead into halftime. But the Patriots, who are undefeated in Region X play this season, battled back in the second half, going from five points down to 10 points ahead. PCC rallied back, though, to take an 82-81 lead with 48 seconds remaining. Patrick answered in a big way, scoring on a pair of baskets and a pair of free throws to go on top by five. Down 87-84 with .9 on the clock, Pitt could only manage a two-point bucket as time expired. Adonte McCarter led the Bulldogs offensively with 22 points. Eugene Jenkins tallied a double-double for PCC with 14 points and 10 assists, and Jeremy Ross added 16 points and nine boards. David Pittman also finished in double figures scoring with 14 to go along with five rebounds. Pitt is now 13-3 on the season, with two of those losses coming to Patrick Henry. Saturday�s loss was the Bulldogs� first in the Charles Coburn Center. Next up for PCC (10-3 Region X) is Lenoir Community College on Wednesday in Kinston. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. |
