MARTINSVILLE (Va.)Johnny Godette and Adonte McCarter combined to score 40 points for Pitt Community College on Sunday, but it wasnt enough to push the Bulldogs past Patrick Henry Community College. PCCs inside/outside tandem of Godette and McCarter scored 20 points apiece for the Bulldogs, who trailed the Patriots (16-5) by 10 at the half and ended up losing their second game of the season, 97-86. Pitt held a slim lead in the first half only to find itself behind 43-40 with 1:39 remaining in the first half as a result of early foul trouble and missed free throws. Patrick Henry then used a late surge to make it 50-40 at the break. PCC Coach Chad Reynolds said his club started the second half with a strong run and had many opportunities to take control of the game in the final 20 minutes. But it wasnt to be for the Dawgs, who ultimately fell victim to questionable shot selection and poor rebounding. (Patrick Henry) is great off the dribble and really guards you, Reynolds said. We look forward to playing them at home (Feb. 7). Eugene Jenkins scored 13 points and dished out five assists for Pitt, which fell to 7-2 on the season, 3-2 in the Region X Conference. McCarter also finished with five assists while Godette led the Bulldogs on the boards with 11. Steffen McGhee had nine points for PCC. Net up for the Bulldogs is Surry Community College (6-11) on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Dobson. Pitt will then play Sunday at 3 p.m. in Wilkesboro against Region X-foe Wilkes Community College. |
