WINTERVILLE—Just four days after having to battle back from an 18-point deficit to top Lenoir, Pitt Community College jumped out to a fast start Sunday against Johnston Community College and quickly removed any doubt about the game’s final outcome. The Bulldogs connected on a barrage of 3-pointers early and used full court pressure to create turnovers that led to easy scoring opportunities en route to a 70-47 halftime lead that resulted in a 126-92 victory. PCC Coach Chad Reynolds utilized his entire bench against the Jaguars (0-15) with nine of those players scoring in double figures. Freshman forward David Pittman led the Pitt offensive attack with 21 points to go along with seven rebounds. “David Pittman did a lot of really nice things for this team tonight,” Reynolds said. “He has the ability to be a great player.” As he has done all season, freshman Johnny Godette handled the inside duties for PCC, finishing with 15 points and eight boards. Stephen Gomola came off the bench to tally a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Purnell Vick also provided a boost off the bench with 12 points and eight boards. Now 7-1 overall, 3-1 in the Region X Conference, the Bulldogs hit the road for their next four games, starting Sunday at Patrick Henry Community College. The Patriots are 11-5 this season and in the midst of a stretch of four games in eight days. “We now have to really concentrate,” Reynolds said. “… It is never easy to play on the road in conference play.” Pitt’s next home game will come Jan. 30 against Surry Community College. | ![]() Rocky Mount's David Pittman (#25) got the Coburn Center crowd going with this first-half dunk against the Jaguars. |
