Bulldogs Snatch Victory from the Jaws of Defeat

WINTERVILLEDown 18 at halftime, Pitt Community College mounted a furious comeback to beat Lenoir Community College this week, 89-85.

Bulldogs Coach Chad Reynolds said following Wednesdays come-from-behind victory that his club is very fortunate to be 6-1 on the season, 3-1 in the Region X Conference.

Trailing 46-28 after a first half marked by offensive miscues and a lack of intensity on defense, PCC was, indeed, fortunate to emerge with a win. Reynolds credited his teams defensive tenacity in the final 20 minutes as keying the remarkable comeback.

Great defensive pressure in the second half allowed us to claw back in the game, he said. I thought our defensive intensity was great in the second half.

Guard Eugene Jenkins spurred the Bulldogs rally, finishing with 27 points and 12 assists. Jeremy Ross knocked in 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Pitt, and Bryan Rogers and Johnny Godette scored 15 each. Godette just missed on a triple-double with nine boards and nine blocked shots.

We still have a lot to work on, said Reynolds. Every night that we play from now on, we are going to face very talented players. We have got to learn to stop making so many mistakes early on offense and be more intense on defense.

Next up for the Bulldogs will be Johnston Community College at home on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Charles Coburn Center.
