PCC Victorious in College Hoops Return

Guard Adonte McCarter Paces Bulldogs with 26 Points in 90-68 Win over Tidewater Community College

PORTSMOUTH, Va.Led by Adonte McCarters 26 points and 19 more from Johnny Godette, Pitt Community College made a triumphant return to college basketball Thursday, topping Tidewater Community College, 90-68.

Competing in basketball for the first time in 14 years, PCC jumped out to a 46-34 halftime lead in its season-opener by shooting 60 percent from the floor, including four 3-pointers.

For the game, McCarter, a guard out of J.H. Rose High School, finished 4-for-5 behind the arc and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. He also grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists.

Godette, meanwhile, handled the inside duties for the Bulldogs. In addition to his inside scoring, the 6-4 center finished with eight boards and five blocked shots.

Eugene Jenkins tallied a team-high 10 assists for Pitt, which placed four players in double figures in scoring. Damien Williams had 15 points for the Dawgs, while Jeremy Ross finished with 10.

Perhaps the biggest key to PCCs victory over TCC was the Bulldogs ability to take care of the basketball. Pitt committed just 12 turnovers for the game.

After an exhibition game against Raeford Athletic on Nov. 30, PCC will take on the Storm once again at home on Dec. 3. Tip-off for the rematch is set for 7 p.m. in the Coburn Center.
