After PCC welding students constructed a revenue-generating sign at the J.H. Rose soccer field, masonry students from the college spent a week enhancing its appearance through the addition of brick columns at its base.

WINTERVILLEPitt Community College masonry students put the finishing touches on a revenue-generating sign at the J.H. Rose High School soccer field this month.

According to Tollie West, curriculum coordinator of PCCs masonry program, the students constructed a pair of brick columns at the signs base to enhance its appearance. He said the students also created a brick bench between the two columns as part of the project.

I was really pleased with the results, West said, adding that his students were careful to match the existing brickwork already in the area.

PCC welding students built the sign at J.H. Rose this summer to help the Rampants soccer program generate a potential $12,000 annually through advertisements.

West said he felt the project his students carried out this month was a benefit to the community and would provide good exposure for Pitts masonry program, which will be featured on the sign in the future.
