WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College students took a break from the classroom this week to enjoy crisp, fall weather and the raucous beat of the Elizabeth City State University drumline. An impressive student turnout took part in Wednesday’s Fall Fest activities, which are organized each year by the college’s Student Government Association. In addition to the 15-member drumline, this year’s Fall Fest featured a variety of games, student club fundraisers, music by Kevin Howard (Top Dawg), and Parker’s Barbecue. LaTonya Evans, director of PCC’s Student Support Services program, arranged for the drumline’s performance, calling it “a great way to highlight the ongoing collaborative efforts between PCC and ECSU.” Ellard Forrester, Elizabeth City State’s band director, said prior to Evans’ request, the university’s drumline band and never been asked to perform at a community college. “It was like playing for homecoming,” Ellard said. “I look forward to many more opportunities to collaborate with PCC, and I thank Ms. Evans for the invitation.”
