WINTERVILLE—Local charitable organizations recently provided grant funding to Pitt Community College to help working women at the school pay for educational expenses.

According to Sandra Hardison, PCC’s coordinator of Resource Development, the Women for Women and Greater Greenville Community foundations granted Pitt $10,000 to help launch the “Working Women Project” at the college in January. Hardison, who co-wrote the grant request with PCC’s Lynn McCormick, said the project would provide funding for tuition and books to women who must work to support themselves and their families.

Hardison said PCC’s Working Women Project could become a model for other educational institutions to follow. “To our knowledge, this is the only project of its type in the North Carolina Community College System,” she said, adding that the college is excited about the project and grateful for the grant funding.

With more than 400 members, Pitt County’s Women for Women group is comprised of community leaders dedicated to philanthropic causes, Hardison said.
