WINTERVILLEWhen Pitt Community College administrators created a mission statement for the school, they made sure to include empowering people for success in a global economy as a primary objective. That commitment to worldwide education continues at PCC, which currently features an enrollment boasting representation from 35 countries plus the United States. Last month, the college paid tribute to its international students with a reception welcoming them to campus. This years event, which was sponsored by Pitts International Club and Student Government Association, took place in the Leslie Building and featured PCC graduates Derek Combs and Naidalyn Douglas discussing a trip they took to China earlier this summer as part of the PCC Abroad program. Combs, who served as PCCs SGA president before graduating in May, touched on Chinese history, religion and culture during his presentation. Referring to photos from his trip, he also discussed Beijings Forbidden City and The Great Wall. It was a great trip, Combs said. It was very enlightening. Douglas, a Jamaica native who also graduated this year, focused on the PCC Abroad contingents visit to Wuxi Institute of Technology, Pitts sister school in China. Douglas, PCCs former International Club president, also made a point to encourage students to build their resumes and leadership skills by getting involved on campus and in the community. Everything that you guys need is here (at PCC), Douglas said. So, please, get involved; its very important. Following the PCC Abroad presentation, reception participants and attendees sampled Southern cuisine donated by local restaurants. |
