Haithcock, a 2008 graduate of D.H. Conley High School, helped the Bulldogs go 3-2 over the weekend and reach the title game of the Pioneer Classic, which was hosted by 22nd-ranked Spartanburg Methodist College. For the tournament, Haithcock posted a .407 hitting percentage and tallied 40 kills, 10 aces, 36 digs and five blocks in 11 games over four matches. In just her second collegiate match, Haithcock recorded 14 kills, five aces, seven digs and two blocked shots in a 2-1 (25-21, 23-25, 15-11) victory over North Lake College (TX). Pitts 5-9 outside hitter committed just two hitting errors against the Blazers in 21 attempts for a .570 hitting percentage. Callie was the most dominant hitter on the floor this past weekend, said PCC Coach William Way. But she did much more than just hit; she passed, played defense, blocked. When we needed points, she came through. With nine sophomores returning from last seasons 21-13 club, Pitt opened the 2008 campaign on Friday against Lenoir Community College in pool play of the Pioneer Classic. The Bulldogs emerged with a 2-1 (16-25, 25-16, 15-8) win over the Lancers before moving on to defeat North Lake in match two. The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season in match three of pool play, falling to Wayne County Community College (MI), 2-0 (25-22, 25-22). On Saturday, PCC returned to the win column by knocking off the tournament host in three games. The 2-1 (25-16, 19-25, 15-11) victory over the Pioneers propelled the Bulldogs into the championship game where Laredo Community College (TX) proved too tough handle. Behind Tournament MVP Ana Fogatu, the Palominos topped PCC, 2-0 (25-7, 25-20). Pitts next match will be Sept. 6 when the Bulldogs square off once again with Region X Conference-foe Spartanburg Methodist. Game time is 2 p.m. in the Charles Coburn Center on the PCC campus. |
