WINTERVILLE—They may not have been auditioning to become the next American Idol but that didn’t stop students, faculty and staff at Pitt Community College from having a little fun showcasing their artistic talents this week.

PCC’s Student Support Services TRIO Program hosted Open Mic Luau ’08 on Thursday in the Fulford Auditorium. The event featured a variety of music and poetry in addition to free food and plenty of laughter.

Started in 2006 to give students and employees a break from the books, Open Mic has become a regular occurrence on the PCC campus. Yesterday’s program was the fourth such event at Pitt.

While this week’s Open Mic theme centered on all things Hawaiian, last year’s event turned the clock back to the 1970s. Held in September, “Get Groovy with PCC’s Open Mic” encouraged performers and audience members to drag out their bell bottoms and “funkiest threads.”
