Nearly 1,600 new students visited the PCC campus July 16 for New Student Orientation.

WINTERVILLEPitt Community College welcomed new students to campus this month for orientation, and the number of newcomers attending this years event was significantly higher than in 2007.

According to PCC Registrar Joanne Ceres, 1,577 students registered during New Student Orientation on July 16. She said 1,064 registered during the same program last year.

Everyone had lines of students they were helping , Ceres said, adding that those who registered last week have until 1 p.m. on July 25 to pay for their courses.

Ceres said students who do not pay by this weeks deadline will have their schedules purged and must re-register for their fall semester courses as a result.

The PCC cashiers office will be open between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on July 25. Students may pay with cash, personal check (with drivers license or government-issued identification), Visa (credit or debit), Mastercard (credit or debit) or money order.

Students paying with a credit card may do so by calling (252) 493-7234. Checks and money orders can be mailed to the cashiers office but must be received by Fridays deadline.

Ceres noted that self-registration for the Fall 2008 Semester begins July 26 at 8 a.m. Students may register via telephone or online during this period, which ends at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14.

In addition to registering for fall courses, students attending last weeks orientation event were able to speak with representatives from a number of local businesses that had set up displays in PCCs Charles Coburn Center.
