![]() The Bulldogs have had much cause for celebration this season, having earned their fourth Region X Conference victory in as many tries with a 3-0 triumph over Blue Ridge Sunday. |
WINTERVILLEPitt Community College used its superior size to topple Blue Ridge Community College Sunday, 3-0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-17), earning the programs 25th consecutive Region X Conference regular season victory in the process. Courtney Koch (nine kills), Jessica Joyner (eight kills) and Michelle Bracey (five kills) combined to power the PCC attack, which tallied 44 kills. Setter Camille Holland posted 34 assists, and Kristi Pipkin led the Bulldogs with nine digs and five of the teams 13 service aces. Both schools were playing their third game in three days. On Saturday, while PCC (4-6 overall, 4-0 Region X) was putting away conference-foe USC-Salkehatchie, Blue Ridge was beating Lenoir Community College in four games. But everything changed for the Bears on Sunday, when they faced a Bulldogs squad that outsized them at each position. Things that worked great for Blue Ridge against LCC were blocked by us, said PCC coach William Way. The good thing about height is that it doesnt get tired. Six-foot-one at the beginning of a match is still 6-foot-1 at the end. With Sundays win, PCC hasnt lost a Region X regular-season match since falling to Cape Fear Community College on Oct. 18, 2005. The Bulldogs beat Spartanburg Methodist four days later and havent lost to a conference foe during the regular season since. Pitt will look to continue the streak tonight at 7 when the Dawgs take on Lenoir in Kinston.
