WINTERVILLEPitt Community College came out fighting Saturday night against arch-rival Louisburg and rolled to a 3-1 (30-23, 31-29, 24-30, 30-26) victory over their arch-rivals to finish the Region X Conference regular season 20-0.

Some teams come out flat knowing they have already locked up first place in the conference, but PCC proved Saturday they are not one of those teams.

The Bulldogs (31-8 overall) didnt want their second-year players to lose their final home contest not for the first time this season in conference action and definitely not against their arch-rivals.

It was basically two heavyweights getting down and dirty, said Pitt coach William Way. We played really, really well against a good team. But then its hard not to get up to play your rival.

The Dawgs cruised in game one before clawing their way past the Hurricanes in game two, 31-29. Game two was a testament to our willingness to fight, Way said.

Up 2-0, the coach said his team became complacent in game three of Saturdays match, and the result was a six-point loss. But after battling back and forth with Louisburg in the decisive fourth game, the Bulldogs eventually pulled away midway through the frame and closed out the match.

We dont get tired, Way said. Experience and conditioning are starting to pay off.

Playing their final game at the Coburn Center, Casey Williams paced Pitt offensively with 11 kills and Jamie Morris tallied 11 assists and seven digs. Kristi Pipkin and Jordy Warren each finished with 10 digs for PCC, and Carissa Faragke and Sierra Ham posted eight and seven kills, respectively.

Pitt will play next in the Region X Conference Tournament for the right to move on to the national tourney in Missouri. This years Region X tournament will be hosted by Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington Nov. 9-11. Matchups for the event will be announced later this week.
