Pitt Beats Hurricanes for the Second Time This Season to Earn Two-Game Lead in Region X Conference

LOUISBURGPitt Community College overcame a raucous crowd and a Louisburg College team bent on revenge Saturday night to earn its tenth straight volleyball win of 2006, 30-22, 28-30, 28-30, 30-26, 15-8.

With Louisburg focusing its attention on PCCs middle hitters, the Bulldogs looked to outside hitters Jessica Joyner and Anita Roberson to fill the void, and the duo didnt disappoint. Joyner tallied 12 kills while Roberson added seven more.

It was a very tough game, Pitt coach William Way said. Louisburg was ready for us. They keyed on Casey (Williams) and Sierra (Ham), and theyre an excellent blocking team.

In addition to solid play from Joyner and Roberson, the Bulldogs, who beat the Hurricanes earlier this season in a non-conference tilt, picked up their serving efforts and created more free ball opportunities for scoring.

Kristi Pipkin, who finished with seven aces, and Joyner rallied the Bulldogs in game four. Way said the Dawgs carried that momentum into the matchs decisive fifth game and never gave Louisburg a chance to recover.

We found a way to get it done, Way said. Louisburg is a tough place to play. Their crowd was loud, but thats the kind of match you want to play.

With the victory, PCC (19-4, 10-0) gained a two-game lead on both Louisburg and Cape Fear in the Region X Conference. And with seven of their next nine conference games at home, Way said the road to the Region X title literally goes through Pitt.
