WINTERVILLE--Pitt Community College got the 2006 volleyball season off to the right start over the weekend, taking five of six games to win the Third Annual Bulldog Volleyball Invitational.

Led by tournament MVP Jamie Morris and All-Tournament team selections Casey Williams and Sierra Ham, the Bulldogs were impressive throughout the three-day event.

PCC started tourney play on Friday with a two-game win over USC-Salkehatchie. The 'Dawgs then dropped a heartbreaker to Wayne County Community College out of Detroit, 30-27, 27-30, 15-13 on Saturday before cruising past Guilford Tech later on in the day.

Sunday's action saw Pitt dismantle a trio of Region X Conference foes. After topping Lenoir Community College in two straight games, the Bulldogs dropped the first game of their next match with Louisburg before rallying to take the next two for a slot in the tournament final.

Though the 'Dawgs got off to a slow start against Cape Fear they never gave in. Coach William Way's squad eventually outlasted the Sea Devils in game one of the match before routing them in the second to take the title.

With a 5-1 record, PCC will face Garrett College in a non-conference home matchup on Thursday. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in the Coburn Center.
