Next Up for the Seventh-Seeded Bulldogs Is #2-Seed Louisburg College
Damien Williams | WENTWORTHSophomore Damien Williams layup and foul shot in the waning seconds pushed Pitt Community College past Catawba Valley Community College last night, 76-74, in the Region X Conference Tournaments play-in game. With time running out, Pitt guard Jakiel Moore found Williams open for the layup to give the Bulldogs a 75-74 lead. Williams was fouled on the shot and hit his free throw to give PCC a two-point victory in what had been a tight game throughout. Williams and fellow sophomore Stephen Gomola finished with 13 points each to pace the seventh-seeded Bulldogs offensively. Steffen McGhee tossed in 12 points for Pitt while Moore finished with nine and Jimitrez McCloud had eight. Johnny Godette grabbed 11 rebounds to lead PCC on the boards and added a pair of blocked shots. With the victory, Pitt now faces second-seeded Louisburg College tonight at 5 in the first round of the Region X Tournament, which is taking place at Rockingham Community College. Should the Bulldogs beat the Hurricanes this evening, they would move on to the semifinal round Saturday at 5 p.m. against the winner of todays Rockingham-Wake Tech game. This years Region X Tournament championship will take place Sunday at 2 p.m.
