Participants in 2009 Leadership Institute Heading Effort to Benefit Those in Need

WINTERVILLE--Pitt Community College employees who participated in the 2009 Leadership Institute are asking students, faculty and staff to help them collect canned food items for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

"(PCC) faculty, students and staff are widely known in our community for our spirit of helpfulness," said Lynn McCormick, the college's coordinator of Library Evening Services. "Here is another chance for us to continue with this proud tradition."

McCormick, who helped organize this year's Leadership Institute, said collection points for food items would be established in each main campus building during the third week of November. She said those who would like to participate in the food drive can bring in nonperishable food items (no glass containers please) to support those who would otherwise go hungry.

"Please help us to help those who are having trouble in this economy," McCormick said. "Many families are turning to the food bank because they are unable to meet the basic need of feeding themselves."
