WILMINGTON—Pitt Community College Volleyball dropped to 14-13 this season with an 0-3 performance in the Cape Fear Community College Sea Devil Invitational Oct. 16-17. The Bulldogs began the weekend with a Region X Conference loss to the host school Friday. The loss was Pitt’s fourth to Cape Fear this season and dropped the team to 2-3 in conference play. PCC Coach Tom Marsh said the Bulldogs played well defensively against the Sea Devils but couldn’t take advantage of good sets to finish off points. The result was a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13 and 25-23) defeat. Holly Sears led Pitt defensively with 18 digs. Jessica Sweers had 13 assists, and Haley Galimore had six kills for the Bulldogs. Things didn’t get any better for PCC on Saturday. Despite leading most of the first set against Brunswick Community College, Marsh said the Bulldogs let their lead slip away with service errors at the end of the frame. Too many attack errors also proved costly as the Dolphins emerged with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-16) victory. Sweers recorded 18 assists for PCC, which had defeated Brunswick twice this season prior to Saturday’s loss. Natalie Salter turned in seven kills and 15 digs, and Galimore finished with six kills and three block assists. Against Wallace Community College (AL), Pitt once again took a commanding first-set lead only to see it evaporate. This time, the Dawgs led 23-18 before dropping the frame, 26-24. Wallace State rolled from that point on, taking a 3-0 victory by winning the second set, 25-16, and the third, 25-10. Galimore led the Bulldogs in kills with five, and Salter and Sears finished with 10 digs each.
