2009 PCC Open House
This year's PCC Open House will feature an award presentation for the "Most Awesome" display/presentation as voted on by the public. Ballots are available on the open house website and will also be distributed during the event.

WINTERVILLE—Though the school’s enrollment is at an all-time high, Pitt Community College admissions officials are still keeping their fingers crossed for a strong turnout at this month’s open house.

For the third year in a row, PCC is inviting the public to its main campus to learn more about the quality educational programs and services that a record 7,710 students discovered this fall.

This year’s PCC Open House will be held Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Most of the event’s activities will take place in the Charles Coburn Center, which is located in the Warren Building on Reedy Branch Road.

Open house organizers say the event is a chance for the community to see more than 60 PCC curricula firsthand and to participate in hands-on activities to learn more about them.

PCC Registrar Joanne Ceres said the college’s previous open house events have been effective in drawing serious enrollment prospects who want to learn more about one of North Carolina’s largest community colleges and one of only 11 in the state to earn “Exceptional Institutional Performance” status this year.

“PCC's open house has evolved into one of our most important recruitment activities of the year,” Ceres said. “The event allows one-on-one interaction between prospective students and PCC faculty and staff.

“It's a great opportunity for students and parents to experience all that we have to offer and to see firsthand the very high quality instruction, facilities and equipment available to our students.”

In addition to prospective students, open house organizers hope the event will attract PCC alumni who will join and support the school’s recently-established alumni association.

According to Ceres, this year’s open house will feature tours of the college’s main campus and Mobile Welding Lab. She added that faculty and staff would be on hand to provide details about curriculum programs and educational services, such as financial aid and the library.

Information sessions will also be held in PCC’s new Craig F. Goess Student Center throughout the event to shed light on specific topics, such as saving money on a college education, university transfer, earning college credit while in high school, and the admissions process for PCC health science programs.

Also taking place during open house will be an auto show hosted by PCC’s Automotive Systems Technology program and the annual Greenville-Pitt County Home Builders Association’s carpentry competition between Pitt County high school students.

PCC’s Construction and Industrial Technologies (CIT) Division will hold a public auction at 10 a.m. during open house to sell a pair of homes students at the college built as part of their coursework. Proceeds will help fund future CIT educational projects.
