PCC Volleyball Celebration
PCC volleyball players celebrate an early lead over visiting Cape Fear Community College on Friday.

WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College volleyball split a pair of conference games this weekend after finally getting a chance to play in front of a home crowd.

On Friday, PCC let an early lead over Cape Fear slip away as the Sea Devils emerged with a 3-0 victory, their third win this season over the Bulldogs.

Pitt, which played its first 12 games this season on the road, led 7-1 in the first frame before CFCC battled back to take the lead at 9-8. Cape Fear would go on to win the set, 28-26, before taking the next two, 25-22 and 25-21, respectively.

PCC Coach Tom Marsh said he felt his team played very well overall against the Sea Devils but hurt its chances of winning by struggling from the service line.

Courtney Everette posted a team-high six kills for the Dawgs while Casey Raymer and Natalie Salter added five kills apiece.

Saturday’s match with Blue Ridge turned out much better for PCC. Haley Galimore and Salter recorded 10 kills each to propel the Bulldogs to a 3-1 victory over the Bears.

Jessica Sweers led Pitt in assists with 26 to go along with three aces. Salter turned in four aces for PCC, which lost set one to the Bears, 25-22, before winning the next three, 25-13, 25-12 and 25-11.

The Bulldogs are now 8-6 on the season, 1-1 in Region X Conference play. The team will host Wake Technical Community College for a doubleheader on Wednesday. The first game begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles Coburn Center with game two set to start shortly after game one ends.
