KINSTON—Freshman Debbie Stotesbury’s success from the service line helped Pitt Community College volleyball rally from an early deficit and defeat Lenoir Community College, 3-0, Wednesday night. With her team trailing 18-15 in the first set, Stotesbury reeled off 10 straight service points to help the Bulldogs take the frame, 25-18. PCC Coach Tom Marsh said Stotesbury’s serving effort was the turning point in his team’s victory over the Lancers. “That seemed to wake us up, and we played better from that point forward,” he said. Behind 14 assists from Jessica Sweers and 11 more from Eleni Bates, the Dawgs cruised to a 25-18 win in set two before closing out the match with a 25-12 win in the third. Casey Raymer led Pitt in kills with seven. Courtney Everette and Kirsten Kelly added six kills each, and Holly Sears finished with five kills to go along with a team-high seven digs. Marsh said his team’s .301 hitting percentage against LCC was its best this season. With the victory, PCC is now 4-3 on the year, 2-0 in Region X Conference play. Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to LaPlata, Maryland, for the College of Southern Maryland Invitational Friday and Saturday. PCC will play twice Friday night, at 5 and again at 7.
