WINTERVILLEPitt Community College announced today that recent graduate Heather Moore has received a pair of scholarships worth $18,000 to attend Georgias Savannah College of Art and Design.

Moore, a Kenansville native, earned an associate degree in Advertising and Graphic Design from PCC in May. She will enroll at SCADs Atlanta campus this fall to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design.

The 21-year-old Moore was a Deans List student at PCC with a 3.9 grade point average. As a result of her classroom success, she earned a portfolio scholarship valued at $10,000 as well as an $8,000-academic scholarship to attend SCAD.

Moore credited her PCC instructors and classmates with inspiring her to succeed in the classroom and further her education, saying she would not be going to SCAD if it werent for them.

I would never take anything for my experience at PCC, Moore said. PCC changed my life in so many ways, and I feel so fortunate to have received an education from there.

As a Pitt student, Moore was twice recognized as an Academic Excellence Award recipient. She received the Constructional and Industrial Division Award at PCC in 2008 and the colleges Presidents Award in 2009.

Moore was the student speaker for the 2008 Academic Excellence Awards luncheon. During her remarks, she recalled being a shy student at James Kenan High School before enrolling at PCC and gaining the confidence and direction she needed to succeed in higher education.

In nominating her for an Academic Excellence Award, Moores instructors, Stacy Jarrell and Eleanor Willard, cited her positive attitude and dedication to her studies.

Eleanor and Stacy have had more influence on my life and educational goals than I could ever ask for, Moore said upon receiving her scholarships to attend SCAD. They have inspired me in so many ways, and I cant thank them enough for all they have done for me.

Any student interested in graphic design would be lucky to study under them, she continued. I know when I am at SCAD and then once I go into the work field, I will continue to look for and value their guidance.

The daughter of Kenansvilles Gail Moore, Heather served as the PCC Student Government Associations public information officer and was the student response speaker from her graduating class during spring commencement this year.
