WILMINGTONPitt Community College volleyball came up short in its 2009 season-opener Sunday at Cape Fear Community College, falling to the Sea Devils, 3-0 in a non-conference tilt. In PCC coach Tom Marshs first game back since retaking the helm after the Bulldogs 2008 campaign, Pitt found itself behind early in set one. But the Dawgs battled back and actually took a 19-17 lead over CFCC before a rash of errors led to a 25-20 loss. PCC lost set two to the Sea Devils, 25-15, before narrowly falling in the third frame, 25-23. Sophomore Jessica Sweers had 13 assists for the Bulldogs while freshman Haley Galimore led the way in kills with seven. Pitt must shake off its loss to Cape Fear rather quickly as the Bulldogs travel to Sanford Tuesday for a Region X Conference showdown with Central Carolina Community College at 6 p.m. 08/31/2009
