SSS Campers tour Saint Augustine's College
Students taking part in the SSS program's summer camp this month tour Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh.

WINTERVILLEPitt Community Colleges Student Support Services (SSS) program wrapped up a camp last week designed to help recent high school graduates prepare for college.

The camp, which was held at PCC July 13-24, featured a variety of informational sessions, including presentations on leadership, transitioning into higher education, and support services available at the college. Campers also received English and math instruction that will aid them with college placement testing.

This months camp also included a trip to Saint Augustines College in Raleigh where students viewed the Delaney Family Exhibit, a collection of historically-significant photographs, letters and correspondence. SSS staff said they hoped the visit would enrich the students cultural awareness.

I thought it was a blessing to be a part of the camp, said South Central High School graduate Maurice Carter. It gave me an opportunity to meet new people and make friends. I feel better about coming to PCC in the fall.

A closing ceremony in Pitts Craig F. Goess Student Center on Friday marked the culmination of camp activities. During the event, students received certificates of completion from the SSS program.
