The summer semester is under way at PCC and enrollment is up significantly from the same point in 2008.

WINTERVILLEPitt Community Colleges summer semester is under way, and the school is once again experiencing a significant increase in enrollment compared to the same point a year ago.

According to an enrollment report by PCC Registrar Joanne Ceres, 3,298 students have enrolled at Pitt this summer, up 508 (an 18 percent increase) from last summer, when the college witnessed a seven percent enrollment growth.

The report showed the number of full-time students taking courses at Pitt this summer increased 49 percent from a year ago. A total of 420 full-time students are enrolled at the college this semester compared to 282 in 2008.

The number of students taking night and weekend courses also increased a good bit, jumping from 182 last summer to 270 in 2009, according to the report.

Even though PCCs summer semester has begun, Ceres said students can still register for the schools second summer mini-session that begins June 26. She said those interested in taking the delayed start courses have until June 25 to stop by her office in the Craig F. Goess Student Center to sign up.

A complete listing of second mini-session classes to be offered this summer is available on the PCC website, www.pittcc.edu.

For students interested in enrolling at Pitt this fall, Ceres said Priority Registration begins July 1. The college, she said, will hold New Student Orientation and Registration for the fall semester on July 15.

Ceres also noted that Fall 2009 academic advising for University Transfer students and health sciences students currently enrolled in the Associate in General Education program will be available June 29 through Aug. 12. The services will be available in the University Transfer/AGE Summer Advising Center located in the Raymond Reddrick Building, Rooms 227 and 228.

Prospective fall students can visit Pitts website and complete an online application if they have not been enrolled at the college within the previous two years, Ceres said, adding that fall classes begin August 18.
