 Keoshia Streeter Allen
 Adam Till
| WINTERVILLE—Though this year’s awards ceremony was canceled, the N.C. Community College System still recognized students statewide for academic excellence, including Pitt Community College’s Keoshia Allen and Adam Till. The state’s current budget crisis led to the cancellation of the 2009 NCCCS Academic Excellence Awards Banquet in Raleigh. Nevertheless, the System Office still cited Allen and Till—and a pair of students from each of the state’s 57 other community colleges—for classroom success and volunteerism. In addition to receiving medallions crafted by PCC Machining Technology students, all of the state’s Academic Excellence honorees are featured on the NCCCS website. The System Office’s recognition of Allen and Till comes after the PCC Foundation honored the two Ayden-Grifton High School graduates in March. A Medical Office Administration student, Allen will receive an associate degree Wednesday, during PCC’s 2009 Spring Commencement. She posted a 3.57 grade point average at Pitt and served as a PCC Student Ambassador for two years, assisting with numerous college functions and a pair of fundraising projects that benefitted local charities. Till, who was the student speaker during the PCC Foundation’s Academic Excellence Reception, is a former Army Ranger who served four tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan before being honorably discharged in 2007. He is a Give2TheTroops volunteer with a 4.0 gpa and is studying to become a nurse, a choice he made while serving in Iraq after watching Army medical personnel treat a wounded soldier.
