Team Will Now Prepare to Defend Its 2008 Region X Conference Title
KINSTON—With a 15-8 victory over Lenoir Community College Wednesday, the Pitt Community College baseball team wrapped up the 2009 regular season and will now aim to repeat as Region X Conference Tournament champions. PCC, which went 4-0 against LCC this year, finished the regular season 35-6 overall and ranked 18th in the latest NJCAA poll and 23rd in the April 20 rankings by Perfect Game Crosschecker. The Bulldogs claimed second in the Region X standings with a 23-6 mark, just behind regular-season champion USC-Sumter (26-4) and just ahead of Spartanburg Methodist College (22-6). Pitt, which won last year’s conference tourney and came within a victory of the NJCAA World Series, will face seventh-seeded Guilford Technical Community College (11-19) in the tournament’s first round. First pitch is set for May 6 at 1 p.m. at Sims Park in Gastonia. The Bulldogs have not faced GTCC this season. The teams were scheduled to play a four-game series at Minges-Overton Baseball Complex, but the games were canceled due to rain.
