Golfers Take Third in Shipbuilders Tournament

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—Pitt Community College golfers competed in the Glenn Heath Memorial Shipbuilders Tournament this month and finished third in the overall standings out of seven teams.

Playing the par 72, 6,650-yard Marsh Hawk Course at Ford’s Colony, the Bulldogs shot 312 on day one of the event before posting a final round 328. The +64 finish gave PCC a tie with Roanoke College, 18 shots back of second-place Randolph-Macon College. Lynchburg College won the team event at +40.

Individually, PCC’s Cameron Taylor (+13), Ryan Perkins (+13) and Derek Joyner (+14) finished tenth, eleventh and twelfth, respectively. Josh Barefoot (+24) was 26th out of the 44 golfers participating in the two-day event.

Perkins opened the tourney with a 72 and was tied for the lead at the conclusion of the first round with Danville Community College’s Andrew Tilley. He shot 85 in the second round, however, while Tilley posted a 77 to take medalist honors.

With a score of 74, Taylor recorded the second-lowest total of the tournament’s second round.
