WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—Pitt Community College golfers competed in the Glenn Heath Memorial Shipbuilders Tournament this month and finished third in the overall standings out of seven teams. Playing the par 72, 6,650-yard Marsh Hawk Course at Ford’s Colony, the Bulldogs shot 312 on day one of the event before posting a final round 328. The +64 finish gave PCC a tie with Roanoke College, 18 shots back of second-place Randolph-Macon College. Lynchburg College won the team event at +40. Individually, PCC’s Cameron Taylor (+13), Ryan Perkins (+13) and Derek Joyner (+14) finished tenth, eleventh and twelfth, respectively. Josh Barefoot (+24) was 26th out of the 44 golfers participating in the two-day event. Perkins opened the tourney with a 72 and was tied for the lead at the conclusion of the first round with Danville Community College’s Andrew Tilley. He shot 85 in the second round, however, while Tilley posted a 77 to take medalist honors. With a score of 74, Taylor recorded the second-lowest total of the tournament’s second round. 04/14/2009
