PCC players and coaches exchange high fives during a March 22 win over Southeastern Community College. | WINTERVILLEThe NJCAA released its softball rankings today and Pitt Community College received votes in the poll for the first time in the programs history. At 13-4, the Bulldogs came in 26th in the NJCAAs weekly poll for Division I junior colleges, one spot better than Region X Conference-foe Spartanburg Methodist College (12-4). Its a big deal for us to be ranked, especially since it is the first time in the programs history, said PCC Softball Coach Junior Bailey. I think it says a lot about the hard work the players and coaches have put in and the overall state of our softball program at Pitt. PCC is currently riding a seven-game winning streak. But, as Bailey noted, the Bulldogs will have their work cut out for them this weekend when the team plays six games in three days. On Friday, Pitt hosts Florence-Darlington Technical College. First pitch for the scheduled doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. at Sara Law Softball Complex. PCC then travels to Dobson Saturday for a doubleheader against Surry Community College before returning home to host Stanly Community College in a doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m. Sunday. Its nice to receive recognition for what weve been able to accomplish this season, but I plan to remind my players that there are still plenty of games left to be played, Bailey said, adding that PCC and Spartanburg Methodist face off April 11 in Spartanburg, S.C.
