 Ryan Perkins | LOUISBURG—Pitt Community College golfer Ryan Perkins shot +2 this month to take medalist honors in the Hurricane Fusillade Challenge at Bull Creek Golf and Country Club. Perkins, a freshman from Concord, turned in scores of 70 (-1) and 74 (+3) for the two-day event for a 144 total, one shot better than Wake Technical Community College golfer Scott Colley. Perkins’s opening round of 70 was the tourney’s only round under par at the 6,290-yard, par-71 course. While Perkins was the tournament’s medalist, host Louisburg College won the team event with a score of 595 (+27). PCC finished fourth out the nine teams competing in the event. The Bulldogs were four shots back of third-place Schoolcraft Community College and 14 behind second-place Wake Tech. Derek Joyner finished tied for 14th for PCC at +14 (156). Teammate Cameron Taylor tied for 21st at +16 (158), and Josh Barefoot rounded out the scoring for Pitt at +21 (163), good for 30th out of the 48 golfers in the tournament. PCC shot 306 as a team on the tourney’s first day before turning in a score of 315 on day two to finish at +53 (621). 03/30/2009
