Kristi Pipkin, left, paced the PCC defense while Courtney Koch led the offensive attack. | WINTERVILLEPitt Community College squared off with Spartanburg Methodist in the teams home opener Friday and came away with a 3-1 (30-25, 30-28, 23-30, 30-27) victory behind the stellar play of freshman Courtney Koch and sophomore Kristi Pipkin. With 16 kills, Koch propelled the PCC offense with help from Camille Holland (37 assists), Jessica Joyner (10 kills), Michelle Bracey (eight kills) and Stephanie Daughtry (seven kills). PCC overcame 16 service errors by utilizing its size in the middle. At 6-1 and 6-0, respectively, Koch and Bracey were simply too much for the Pioneers to handle. This was our first test at home and it was in our home opener against what might be the toughest team in the region so far this year, said PCC coach William Way. We kept at it, though, and overcame the issues with our service game. They didnt have an answer for Courtney and Michelle. Kristi Pipkin recorded 36 digs to lead the Bulldogs defensive effort. Koch added four blocks and six block assists for Pitt, which improved to 2-6 overall, 2-0 in the Region X Conference with the win. 09/11/2007
