SALT LAKE CITYPitt Community College volleyball dropped its final two games of the Salt Lake Community College Invitational on Saturday, but the Bulldogs didnt make it easy for their opponents, Yavapai Community College (AZ) and Snow College (UT).

Playing in their final game before consolation bracket action got under way; the Dawgs took on Yavapai and gave the Roughriders all they wanted before ultimately falling in two games (30-21, 30-13).

Pitt jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Yavapai in game one of Saturdays matchup. The Bulldogs maintained the six-point cushion at 12-6 before the Roughriders caught fire. Yavapai reeled off seven unanswered to take the lead at 13-12.

The two teams traded points with a Kristi Pipkin ace helping PCC close to within one at 16-15, but that is as close as it would get. Yavapai would go on to close out game one with a 14-6 run.

Following the Yavapai loss, PCC took on Snow College out of nearby Ephraim, Utah, in the opening round of the consolation bracket and fell in three games (30-19, 30-22, 30-22) to drop out of the single-elimination event.

"Our second day of play was definitely a step up from Friday," Coach William Way said. "It can't be mentioned enough how important experience and chemistry are to any team. Nearly every team here has both, putting us two steps behind while trying to learn from each play."

Though Pitt finished 0-6 in SLCC Invitational play, the Bulldogs didnt go down without a fight in any match, and the experience gained from going head-to-head with national powerhouses for two days should prepare the team well for Region X Conference play.

"The intensity we've seen and competed against in Salt Lake City is something we will strive for as a team goal as we return home and open up Region X play," Way said. "That's the type of play and energy that would allow us to succeed at any level."

PCC takes on Cape Fear Community College on the road Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a Region X tilt.
